While there are some perks to renting an apartment, such as the lack of maintenance, there are some downsides too. Let’s face it, decorating can be a challenge, especially if you’re wondering how to hand curtains in an apartment, especially if you’re wondering how to hang curtains without drilling. While apartment curtains can be challenging, and even renter friendly curtain rod can be a tad difficult to come by, just know that hope isn’t lost.

There are ways to have temporary window coverings for your space. These can still be very stylish, give you privacy, block out light, and overall, just make you feel like this temporary home, is your home.

HANG APARTMENT CURTAINS WITH CURTAIN RODS

When it comes to temporary curtains and temporary window coverings, you’ll need a rod or something to hold up those apartment curtains. While there are many different curtain rods out there on the market, you’ll need to first figure out what will fit your space. Some apartments will allow drilling, while some may not. So first, you’ll need to figure this out. But don’t worry, even if you can’t drill, there are plenty of non-drilling curtain rods for apartments.

Maybe you’re not sure how to hang curtain rods, but we have a dedicated guide on hanging curtain rods.

SUSPEND A CURTAIN ROD FROM THE CEILING FOR LOW WINDOWS

Suspending a curtain rod from the ceiling can certainly work! This can be an excellent option that doesn’t require any drilling. This is great if you need to install curtain railing temporarily as you can either hang from the ceiling or maybe the surrounding walls. Plus, there’s another added bonus to this, hanging from the ceiling is going to give the illusion of more depth in the space. This then makes the space look much larger. So, if you’re wanting the illusion of height in a small room with small windows or low ceilings, then this can be perfect.

HANG CURTAINS WITHOUT DRILLING IN A RENTAL APARTMENT

So, maybe you’re still wondering how to hang curtains without drilling? Well, temporary curtain rod in the space is most certainly possible. In fact, there are actual several renter friendly curtain rod options that could very well work for you. Apartment curtain rods don’t always need to require drilling. However, you will need to keep in mind that when it comes to curtain rods for apartments, there will be a few things that you’re going to have to keep in mind.

For starters, if you have heavy duty curtains, so something thick and heavy, these options may not work. We personally recommend our sheer curtains or maybe even our 2 layer blackout curtains. These both give you privacy and they’re light enough to be about to be effectively hung up without the curtain rod falling off.  While it’s ideal to have lighter weight fabrics, that doesn’t mean that you won’t have options.

With our products, we offer plenty of different colors, designs and patterns. So you’ll be able to make your space as stylish as you want. Seriously, even when it comes to renting, there are still plenty of ways to keep up a gorgeous space! So, here are some curtain rods for renters, that just may work out perfectly for you!

HANG CURTAINS WITH TENSION RODS

A tension curtain rod can honestly be one of the greatest non-drilling methods for getting window treatments into your temporary home. So, how exactly do tension rods work? Well, it’s all about having tension. So, the rod itself is between two surfaces, this could be a window frame or wall.

There is tension in the rod, and this tight pressure between the two surfaces is what makes it stay up. But, maybe you want to know how to use a tension rod? Well, this can honestly be pretty easy too. You’re just needing to repeatedly twist the curtain rod between two surfaces until it can no longer be twisted out. The more tension means the more stability there will be. This is a perfect no drilling option for renter homes.

Tension rods for curtains do have some limits however. You’ll need to make sure that there is enough space on the window frames to properly put the tension rods there. If you have a small room, you could possibly use an entire rod and place it wall to wall. This could help with giving your space a more luxurious look. However, you’ll need to keep in mind that tension rods for curtains can only hang non heavy fabric. As stated above, your best options may be to go with sheer curtains or maybe a 2 layer blackout curtain. These both are light weight and can get the job done.

TRY TWIST & FIT CURTAIN RODS

Twist and fit curtain rods are pretty similar to tension curtain rods. The rod is meant to be completely secured and meant to cross the window and get adjusted right on the window frame. These are also very quick and easy to install. You can expect curtain rods like these to be either very light weight or medium weight.

USE TEMPORARY COMMAND HOOKS

Ah, the command hooks are one of the biggest go-tos whenever it comes to temporary housing. This is probably a renter’s best friend. You can expect to find these everyway, from hold coats in the entryway, holding towels in the bathroom, hanging up pictures, and you guessed it, to hang up curtains.  Just keep in mind, while these may be an easy and affordable solution, these can’t hold much weight. So, you’re going to have to have light weight curtains. Just double check the packaging to see how much it can hold up.

Overall, when it comes to these temporary solutions for renting the space, there isn’t anything wrong with getting creative. Some people have even resorted to just using double sided tape. In general, while it’s nice getting to have a stylish space, the main goal should be to just create comfort and functionality in your space. Your space is going to need curtains.

They help with giving your space some needed privacy, but this is also going to help you out with getting quality sleep too. Overall, just think outside the box and don’t give up on getting yourself some renter-friendly window treatment solutions. Hopefully, some of the options listed above will be exactly what you’re needing!
